Where is The Museum?

Just like Banksy often showcases his art in unusual locations, The World of Banksy exhibition takes place in a truly unique venue—a church in the heart of Prague, the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel. This historic building has witnessed centuries of change and transformation.

Early History

Originally built in the Romanesque style, the church was later expanded during the Gothic period and finally reconstructed in the Baroque style. It stands as a testament to Prague’s rich architectural evolution.

Reformation ERA

In the 15th century, it hosted sermons by Czech priest and reformer Jan Hus, a significant figure in church history.

Imprial Reforms

During the reforms of Emperor Joseph II in the 18th century, the church and its adjoining monastery were closed and repurposed.

Modern Uses

Over the years, the building served various functions, including as a warehouse and a nightclub. Beneath the church lies a crypt where Prague University’s rectors were once buried, adding another layer of historical significance.

Now, after centuries of varied use, this extraordinary location has found its latest purpose: hosting another reformer—Banksy.
